It suggests that they have grand plans of being in this business for the long haul. It’s always refreshing when a new company arrives on the scene with a proprietary enclosure rather than the usual “project box” housing we’re so accustomed to in the effects world. But thanks to careful attention to detail and innovative engineering, it’s much more than that. And quite frankly, that alone would make it pretty cool. What he created may just be the best practice, song-writing, and performance tool of the 21st century.Īt face value, the Beat Buddy is just a drum machine in pedal form. In short, he wanted a hands-free drum machine that he could manipulate with his feet. Like so many great inventors before him, David conceived of the Beat Buddy to meet a real need in his playing and performance requirements. Clearly, a pedal-based drum machine was an excellent (and popular) idea.Īnd while the Beat Buddy first came into the public eye with the Indiegogo campaign, the inspiration and engineering of the Beat Buddy began prior to 2013. The initial campaign goal was $75,000 and it was raised within the first 24 hours! The campaign for the Beat Buddy ultimately raised more than four times that goal and ended at $249,057. If anyone has comments and/or suggestions, I’d love to hear them. The story of the Singular Sound Beat Buddy begins in late 2013 when founder and CEO David Packouz launched an Indiegogo campaign to build a pedal-based drum machine. (Need to monkey with START and STOP messages maybe ) PAUSE on the external Beatbuddy footswitch works but… you have to hit PAUSE button in time to get things started again. If you set RC-300 to COUNTIN, it counts and then starts, which starts the INTRO/COUNTIN on the Beatbuddy. I have yet to figure out how to get INTROS on the Beatbuddy to work the way I want them to. Record BASE LOOP with RHYTHM ON to lay in timing METADATAĪfter this, all the loops and the Beatbuddy stay in sync, even when changing tempo (TAP or EDIT) on the RC-300, as well as when hitting the ALL START/STOP switch. Go to BASE LOOP (usually LOOP 1) EDIT : Set number of measures I’m going to record MEMORY EDIT:TEMPO and set to a WHOLE BPM (Maybe this doesn’t matter - needs experimentation) They have a tendency to build up and drown everything else out.) (Don’t record Beatbuddy output into the RC-300 LOOPS unless you mean to. MIDI PC OUT:OFF (Shouldn’t matter - Program changes not being sent) MIDI TX CHANNEL:10 (Shouldn’t matter, as Beatbuddy is set to OMNI) MIDI RX CHANNEL:1 (Shouldn’t matter for now) The most closely related situation I was able to find on here is: At this point I’m not sure that there’s not some issue with the BB itself. Just for kicks, I reversed the config with the V元x - setting it as the master and the BB as the slave - the BB also ignores the V元x.Īs of now, the only MIDI sync I can get to work is with BB as master, and V元x as slave. I’ve done factory resets on both machines. I’m running the latest firmware on both machines. The BB doesn’t acknowledge any tempo change, nor do I get the little arrows indicating any sort of link. No problem, I thought, I’ll just run MIDI out into the BB MIDI in, things will be great! I switched the cable, set the MIDI sync to internal on the RC300, started the rhythm and got ready to rawk. I recently decided to up my looper game and got a Boss RC300, which I understand has to be the tempo master. It works in that configuration flawlessly. I bought the BB about a year ago…sync’ed it as tempo master to my voicelive three extreme.
